Catherdral Domain earns ACA-Accredited Camp Status

The American Camp Association (ACA) announced recently that The Cathedral Domain has received ACA-Accredited Camp Status for the 2005-2006 season.

“By being ACA-accredited, The Cathedral Domain demonstrates that it cares about its campers and complies with the highest quality standards designed specifically for camps,” said Pat Hammond, director of the ACA’s standards program.

“Parents expect their children to attend accredited schools. They also deserve a camp experience that is reviewed and accredited by an expert, independent organization,” Hammond said. “ACA accreditation is very important to our camp,” said Andy Sigmon, Facility Director. “Although the program is voluntary, we owe it to our campers and parents to have the best operation possible. ACA accreditation demonstrates our commitment to quality camp programming.”

The American Camp Association is the only independent accrediting organization reviewing camp operations in the country. Its nationally recognized standards program, with over 300 standards, focuses primarily on the program quality, health and safety aspects of a camp’s operation. The standards are continuously reviewed, refined and updated.

The ACA accreditation process is comprehensive and thorough. Only 25 percent of day and resident camps across the country attain ACA-accredited status. In addition, a team of camp professionals not affiliated with the camp seeking accreditation review the camp’s operations while in session once every three years.

Founded in 1910, The American Camp Association is a not-for-profit community of camp professionals and is dedicated to enriching the lives of children through they camp experience. ACA recognizes the camp experience as a significant contributor to the positive development of children and youths.

For further information regarding The Cathedral Domain camping program, contact the camp at 606-464-8254, or visit the web site at www.cathedraldomain.org.
