The Diocese of Lexington is currently searching for its seventh bishop. Our sixth bishop, the Rt. Rev. Stacy Sauls, resigned to become the Chief Operating Officer for The Episcopal Church.
During the transition period, the diocese is served by an Interim Bishop, the Rt. Rev. Chilton R. Knudsen.
Episcopal Bishop Terry White of Louisville and his colleague Bishop Chilton Knudsen of Lexington have set a wager on Saturday’s Cardinals – Wildcats game. The amount of the wager is shrouded in sacred mystery. If the Cats win Bishop White makes a donation to the Cathedral Domain Camp and Conference Center for the Diocese of Lexington. If the Cardinals win, Bishop Knudsen makes a donation to All Saints Camp and Conference Center for the Diocese of Kentucky.
Although “Cardinal” denotes a religious leader in a branch of the Christian faith, neither Bishop White nor Bishop Knudsen counts on anything but the great skill of their respective teams to lead to victory. “Bring it on” says Bishop White. “Go Cats!” says Bishop Knudsen.
No matter which team wins, the real winner in this wager will be the camp and conference center clients.
Both camp and conference centers serve people of all ages with multiple programs of spiritual growth and fitness.

This past Saturday Bishop Chilton, the Interim Assisting Bishop, joined Herb Mahan from Klote and Associates, Andy Sigmon, Bryant and Connie Kibler, and Nancy and her son Eddie (the homeowners) to continue the work begun by volunteers from the Episcopal Diocese of Western Michigan. We were able to install a new wood burning heat stove and chimney in the new addition as well new carpet. We were also able to join the new and old roofs, trim the eave and repair some drywall. While there is still a significant amount of work to do to complete the room (taping and mudding the ceiling, adding molding to the ceilings and floors, trimming out windows and doors), Eddie and his mother have a warm dry room to live in this winter.
More work will be done over the next year as well as in many other locations. St. Timothy’s had eleven weeks of schools, colleges and churches in 2011 and still had requests at six homes we never got to. We currently have eight weeks filled in 2012. There are full week opportunities throughout the year as well as weekend visits for congregations that can only spare a day or two. For more information, contact the Ven. The Rt. Rev. Chilton Knudsen, retired Bishop of Maine, is serving as interim bishop of the Diocese of Lexington during the transition period as we search for our seventh bishop, beginning in October 2011. During the next year, Bishop Knudsen will be with us for two weeks per month and three weekends. Her office will be at the Mission House and her residence will be at St. Agnes House. [Read more...]

The Holy Spirit is powerfully at work in the Diocese of Lexington. There is so much to celebrate in the story of this diocese. Together with your bishops, you have always embraced God’s mission in so many ways. In the most recent chapter of your history, you took boldly creative steps to respond to the mission opportunities around you. This is a lively and healthy diocese. You care about one another, and about the people in your local communities.
My mama, may God rest her lovely soul, used to remind me that “Actions speak louder than words”. Your actions speak eloquently about your priorities, your passions and your faith. This side of heaven, there will always be bumps and imperfections.
